See the tabs at the top of my blog?  One is my “About” page and one is called “Best Of.”  I created the Best Of page to make it easier for readers to find some of the posts that I or others consider some of my best writing here without having to wade through the blog month by month, searching for keywords, or clicking tags.  It occurred to me that I haven’t updated my Best Of page in over a year… so I have corrected it.

I was talking with a dear friend over the weekend and asked her what she thought about my blog.  One thing she said was “man, it’s sure going to be hard for someone to live up to your ideal!”  So it got me thinking about this blog, why I’m writing it and what it’s supposed to represent.

I don’t want these posts to be a checklist of qualities that the next woman in my life must meet… but rather I’m writing them as a way of changing how I go about looking for someone to date.  In the past, probably the #1 quality I looked for in a girl was that she liked me, which was my insecurity driving my decisions and pretty much ceded all power and responsibility for the relationship to the woman.  That wasn’t really fair to me or to her.

I’ve decided that, going forward, I’m going to try and more actively find a woman who has many of the qualities that I find important and attractive.  I know that no one is ever going to be the perfect fit — the “ideal woman” — but that’s what makes new relationships so much fun, discovering both the common ground you share as well as the new ground that offer up new experiences and chances to grow!  Then, my ideal woman will be the living, breathing, wonderful human being standing next to me instead of a collection of wishes and fantasies.

In writing this blog I hope to offer friends and acquaintances the opportunity to better know and understand me– what I think about, what I’m looking for, where I came from and where I’m going, my hopes and dreams.  I hope that many of you feel the same way I do sometimes, or perhaps recognize bits of yourself in my musings.  And maybe one day– if I’m lucky– a single woman will read something I wrote, feel a connection with me, and get in touch…

A guy can dream, right? 🙂
